The Center for Injuries Prevention


The Center for Injuries Prevention of Charles University 2nd Faculty of Medicine and Motol University Hospital in Motol at the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, which was founded in 1992, has the status of a certification center of the WHO International Safe School Programme. Since 2011, the CUP has been part of the National Coordination Center for Injury Prevention, Violence and Child Safety Support, at the Motol University Hospital.


We have experience in conducting research using epidemiological studies and complex statistical methods.

Our main interest is to study:
1) Unintentional injuries and intentional injuries
2) Differences in violence and injury mortality by sex and age
3) Progress in violence and injury prevention
4) The role of alcohol in road traffic accidents with fatal outcome
5) We conduct analyses of data from the National Register of Injuries


We are responsible for the obligatory course Public health and preventive medicine taught to 4th year medical students (200 students each year). We also offer optional courses  Law in medical practice, Health and social care of risk groups of citizens, Human Ecology,  and Minimum of health insurance . We also train junior researchers for PhD degree.


We participate in the implementation of the National Action Plan for Child Injury Prevention and the National Strategy for the Prevention of Violence against Children, we educate in the field of health literacy, injury prevention and violence, we offer certification courses for doctors, nurses, teachers, and we prepare educational materials.
